Question MacBook & Skype (via Airport Extreme)

I'm a new entrant to the world of Mac after years of Windows use. Got it all set up which was extremely straight forward, with office installed in no time, Live Messenger, Yahoo messenger etc all working.

Downloaded Skype (v2.7 I think) through the link you get when you search downloads via the apple home page. It installed no problem and I can search for new contacts, but my existing contacts are not to be seen.

If I log into Skype on my windows PC or via Fring on my mobile, the list is there. I have been unsuccessful in getting them to show in Mac though.

Anyone got any ideas or pointers?

Many thanks
Mike

first (via Airport Extreme) does not change anything so its not ur problem.

the problem you are talking about is etisalat blocking skype, i have had the same problem on PC, and Mac at the same day.

the solution, first to talk 2 people add them manually again, you know Skype search system is perfect, and you wont have any problems.

Your contacts? okay dont worry they are coming on the way!!! the contacts appeared after two days on my macbook. weird ha!!

anyways, if the problem is still there then u should try Hotspot Shield, just run the app, and then run Skype and you are done.
But i prefer to work without it if possible, im not using it, and i tried the audio/visual chats and they worked perfect.

Problem solved… I copied the files from the skype directory on my PC into the same directory on the mac (the directory names the same as your skype user name)

All contacts now showing. Winner.

seems like a good tip, didnt think about that honestly

BTW, how u find experiencing Skype on ur Mac, i feel faster for some reason, and the lagging in the voice is much better on the Mac. I know its something related to the bandwidth, but i tried the same connection on PC and Mac, and the Mac Skype was a little better.

I find my Mac faster with all apps TBH, but I think that is doe to it being new versus a 5 yer old PC that is crammed with junk!

I want to keep the Mac clean - I have office on there, and want to install software for the following;

1. HP printer software
2. HP scanner software
3. Sony camcorder software
4. Fuji photo software
5. Torrent software

These are the main ones I'll be installing, and hopefully it will stay cleaner than the PC ever did!

You don't need software for the printer and camera.
Try VueScan instead of the HP software.
Its not the best out there, but it works for most scanners.

Still, Macs are faster.
I once did a test with a brand new SonY Vaio TZ that cost $2,600 with a 4 year old PowerBook that cost $1,600 (when bought).
The Mac was 30 seconds faster.
I then tried it beside a Core 2 Duo MacBook Black and the black was faster by 30 seconds.

THis means side by side, the black is faster than the Vaio by 1 minute!!
