While we're on this subject, I find it very annoying that the back-lighting only works when the user is logged in. If I try turning on my Air in the middle of the night, I cannot see the keys which means that I cannot type my password to log in. Only after I've logged in, the backlight comes on. Anybody got a tip to help with that?

The backlight is software based and it requires certain drives to be loaded before we can actually control the light which means that u have to login to adjust the light for the keyboard.

But lots of drivers are loaded before we get to login screen. Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, for example, work fine at login, so why not the keyboard lights?

Its true that many of the drivers do load without even logging on to the OS. But wat i think is that the Function Keys (F1, F2.....) only get activated after you log in to the OS.
