network problem

Hi guys,

I am a new member and this is my first post...

I cant connect my mac with my home pc (which is a windows XP) over the network. When i goto finder and click on my macbook i can see my home pc in the network but when i click it it says connection failed.I use a wireless D-link router and my internet works fine. Btw i had been accessing the files on my pc before using the finder this connection failure happened quite unexpectedly n i really dont know the reason for this. It just stopped working one day.Any ideas anybody as to why i am not able to connect to my home pc?

Thanks in advance.

Hi suspiria,

maybe the settings has to be renewed. Go to your Windows PC right klick on the drive and/or folder and with another click on permissions & security and enable network share (sorry, I use the german versions on my computers, so I do the translations on my own, but the names should be quite accurate!).

Enable it - click on the text to enable, then more infos appears less below, which has to be enabled, too. It should say something about 'show drive or folder in the network'. After enabling this and confirming with OK it should work again.

more details about network sharing:
Shared resource - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

BUT - if you use an extra firewall, or maybe you use a security suite (what you really don't need !!!) like from G-Data, Bitdefender, Kaspersky, McAfee, Norton, AntiVir - you have to turn at least the firewall off (maybe that whats not allowing your access). All suites have an own firewall included which blocks as standard network access. What antivirus program/security suite are you using on your PC?
