Airport Express

ok, so i just decided that i'll sleep hungry for a week just so that i could save money for the airport express. i've set up the airport express, and the music quality is AMAZING... but im having a problem... i want to use Airport Express as my wireless network rather than my Wireless Router that i am currently using. do i have to connect the Airport express with the wi-fi router using an RJ-45 in order for it to boost signals, or can the airport express catch signals and boost them itself? becasue if it can, it isn't doing so right now, when i scan for wireless networks, it only shows me my WIFI router... any ideas?

I think if you go through the airport utility it asks you if you would just like to make it part of a network or start a new one. If you go back through the utility it should give you that option.

Yes it has to be connected using RJ45.
It can connect to another Airport (Express or Extreme) and very few others.
And this will extend the rang of your wifi connection.

But if you want to connect it to the other network, (in most cases) it has to be RJ45.

True, but it unless he has an airport, it won't work.

Run the airport utility for the airport express and it will give you the option to have it join another network. Since the airport express is the airport in question, this should work. If your other router is password protected the utility should ask you for that information.

hmm, thnx huge, it asks and all, i already knew that, i wanted to know if i cuud use the signals of my other router and boost them using airport express wihtout connecting it with the RJ45 cable, but fang is right, i cant do it unless its connected with RJ. you cant catch signals using exxpress and boost them again without the wirelink. THNX!

I don't understand. If it catches the signal from the RJ45 and you can connect to the Airport express then why isn't it extending the signal? I did this is an old linsys router and my Airport Express.

Am I missing something? Or is it that it joins the other network and you cannot connect directly to it?
