MacBook Pro Freezing

This has been troubling me for months. And when I say months, its partially due to the fact that I haven't had time or know where to take it for fixing.

I received my Macbook Pro as a gift in summer 2006, when it first released. It worked like a charm for about a year until I started adding FCS, Adobe CS2, Macromedia and a bunch of RAM-eating apps. It was slow, but still worked.

That's when the freezing started. It just hangs every three-5 seconds unless I move my mouse or unplug something. This can be very annoying when I'm listening to iTunes (interrupted songs) or using the above mentioned apps.

It was suggested that I format and do a clean install of Mac OSX but to do that I'd have to keep moving the mouse for 10hours continuously!!! (I gave up after an hour).

Help!

What does Activity Monitor show you?
My main focus is how the RAM & CPU levels are.

Also, do you mean that even while you are running the Installation process it shows the same problems?
If you boot from a CD (or an external hard disk) how is the performance?

What are the specs of the machine?

Ok my specs are:
Originally 512RAM (But I replaced it with 2GB from Al-Ain Center)
1.83GHz Intel Core Duo

I'm right now stuck between a half-way installation of MAC OS X (because it keeps freezing), so even booting from the CD gives the same results.

When did you replace the RAM? and Did you check the Activity Monitor, like Fangpyre, suggested?

I'm going to guess that this actually happened when you upgraded your RAM.
Try pulling out the new RAM.
Since this problem persists during installation, its most probably a hardware issue.

Applications and then Utilities Folder.

The real question is did your problem start when you brought the new RAM, and have you checked the RAM as Fangpyre suggested?

Update

Hi all,

Thank you all for your help and I wanted to update everyone on what happened. Things got worse to where I couldn't even access the desktop. So off I went to the boys at graphitech.

They found out that my HDD was fried. So they replaced it and it works like a charm. And I upgraded to OSX Leopard so I'm so happy.

PS: also got this cool red cover so I'm now the happy owner of a red apple..literally!
