Lets go back to Magnus' second suggestion. - Boot thru the Installation DVD - Go to Disk Utility mount Macintosh HD - Go to Terminal type: cd /Volumes type: ls you should see Macintosh HD here if you do, type: chmod 775 /Volumes/'Macintosh HD' I'm looking for other solutions elsewhere.

| Everything points to major damage. Your best solution is to move your data using a firewire cable to another Mac. Then erasing everything and reinstalling OSX. Diskwarrior may be able to help you. But I personally prefer to go back to a clean install. You may not have the firewire option considering it won't mount. If that is the case DiskWarrior is the only option to recover the data. | Hi all Try and get a copy of this defragger called iDefrag from Coriolis Systems :: Products :: iDefrag, as the UNIX code the runs in the background in OSX does not de fragment your hard drive and disk utility is very limited in what it can do. I have used this recently on 7 G5s and all machines had severe fragmentation and three of the drive catalogs were damaged! Disk Warrior will have very little effect! |

I agree with fangpyre, doesn't look good. Not sure what else to try to get access to the drive. I hope you have some form of backup. Formatting would have to be next step, and if that fails, then the drive is surely bad. Is it under warranty? Then it should at least be fixed or replaced. Sorry that you had to experience all of this. Let it be a lesson to all of us that things do go wrong.

your main hard drive is failing.. if you can buy an external firewire drive you could install the OSX from it and hopefully the main drive will mount and do the backup. Just make sure the external firewire drive is formatted in an OSX environment or hfs+ else you wont see it during installation. Get also a copy of diskwarrior and filesalvage its really a lifesaver. cheers and good luck

Haven't done anything..I would do my usual thing, check my mails, msn, and then after all that just play WoW.. I never touched anything because I am still don't understand the system and stuff.. You can still say, I haven't explored it yet and I know if I touch something I'm scared I'll mess it up.. Like with windows, I've been using it for years and I understand everything and could probably know most errors and fix it.. So my friend is willing to help me out, I just need to know what I need to get before I go and give my laptop.. Any wires? and where can I get them?
