MAC and HP Printer not playing together My HP Network printer, while still communicating with my Windows Laptops, is playing with my iMAC or Mac Book anymore. I even ran an update for OS 10.5, but still nothing. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall the Printer software? Sometimes home computing can be testing. Any suggestions welcome. Bruce

Hi there, I think this has got something to do with CUPS on the mac, I had the same problem with my HP C7283, shared between windoze and OSX, if you check the HP website and look for something called HPv9.7Inkjet_OSX10.5_Update.dmg , follow all of the instructions to the letter, including a manual uninstall of all the files mentioned in the support article, then it should do the trick.

Hi there, here is the history, hope it assists. Printer: HP Photosmart C6183 All-in-One Originally installed when running OS10.4, networked through my Etisalat Wireless home network. Worked perfectly on all computers (iMac, Macbook, 2 x windows laptops). At this stage, following a restart of the Macs, a HP set-up assistant appears, but unable to complete the setup process, as the Printer didn't appear on its list (despite working perfectly). Installed OS10.5 Printer continues to work perfectly on all computers. Now the HP setup assistant can recognise the printer, so I complete the setup process, thereby not having the annoying assistant appear, following a restart. BUT, now the Macs don't send their printer jobs to the printer. The printer shows 'printer ready' in the device manager, but no jobs are appear on its list?? I download the Mac 10.5 software to the iMac, no improvement. iMac is able to send test page, which successfully prints, this really confused me! Thats about it really, hope someone can make some sense out of this.

MacBook & HP Printer not working together After buying a new MacBook yesterday - I wasn't getting a Print Dialogue box - the Printer is Officejet 6313 All In One, shared via a Belkin USB peripheral switch. I've uninstalled and reinstalled from the disc supplied with the printer, but nothing seems to do the trick. I've done all the obvious things - but now I can't print at all. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Many thanks Chris

Run Migration Assistant (Applications>Utilities) and choose to restore from Time Machine backup. The best time to do this is to do it when you've just done a new installation of Mac OS X but I think you can do it anytime.

Hey McDonald, If I were you I would check if there is a difference in how the printer is configured in CUPS. Go to your Imac and then in a web browser and type in your imacs IP address followed by a colon and 631 so for example: 192.168.0.24:631 Now compare the printer settings for CUPS on your imac to the Macbooks and make them similar. They are all UNIX machines printing to the same printer so the settings should be identical. Dan | |
