office 2008 on SL and SMB shares

after upgrading to snow leopard, and having active directory configured.

it is impossible to save files from within office 2000 (word, excel, powerpoint) onto the SMB shared drives.

i was thinking it was a problem with my installation and configuration, until a colleague in the office who uses a mac, called me complaining about the same issue.....

anyone experiencing that ? any knows fixes ? i googled it, couldnt find anything interesting !

The excellent Macwindows site has a page on Snow Leopard and File Sharing Tips and Reports, which discusses this very issue, among others. Mac users have offered various suggestions, such as "Disabling autosave/autorecover solved the problem"...

The equally good MacoSXHints discusses the problem as well... It is also found on the Microsoft forums, and then Apple forums... All these are evolving threads so you may want to check them out for suggestions and - hopefully - solutions...

(BTW, I did find the above via Google: mac office 2008 Snow Leopard SMB share -- it's all about guessing the "right" keywords to use...

Just want to point out that, as mentioned in the forums, Active Directory binding seems truly to be the root of the problem. And also that the suggested remedy works well in 10.6.1. Note that allegedly the issue ought to be fixed in the next SL point release...

For the record I do not have any AD config and I have no problem writing to a shared drive. If you have both you may want to remove AD. In 10.6 SL you need to go to System Preferences, Accounts panel, Login Options, click Edit next to Network Account Server. Then just remove the domain you had put there. Reboot will be needed.
    Cheers,
    -Michl
