    Nightmares on keynote 2009

    Hi,

I know there are a lot of Keynote Gurus here so I am posting it anyway..

We really are having some keynote 2009 permission issues saving on the AFP server.

Here is what we've been doing. All our files are from keynote 2006 and we recently installed the keynote 2009 and open those files directly from the AFP server and then save it actually saves but now when creating another version of it on AFP server.. file-save as create a different filename.. keynote 2009 will give an error saying you do not have access, but we have the correct permission and we are able to create a folder on the AFP server.

either you give access to a user or group permission.. keynote 09 just don't like laying well with permissions on AFP server.. Although it saves but creating another version by File-SaveAs it just don't let us create. When using finder to create a folder on where the keynote was saving were actually fine..

    Another Issue

while opening a keynote 09 file on an AFP server, copying master slide on a keyboard or in the mouse generates an error saying "an error has occurred please quit and reopen keynote". And not only the copy function that generates an error but I think all the choices except for delete when you do a right click on the master slides.

how i wish we could revert it back to 2006. We did not have this issues before..

can anyone of you guys help me test it out on your environment using an AFP server and open it and do a file save as.. also do a copy, create new master slide while opening the file on an AFP server..

can anyone confirmed if this is an issue or not?

is anyone else having some issues regarding keynote permissions saving on an AFP server?

I tried this over my Airport Extreme connected hard and it worked fine.
But what I did was start a new 09 keynote, save it to the disk, then save as.
    Everything worked fine.

I don't expect the problem is actually due to Keynote, because it shouldn't be talking with the AFP server directly.

Have you tried working on the file directly on the machine by copying it to your local disk?

we tried file->SaveAs and saved to desktop and we get access permission issue even though we have the correct permission on our desktop.

note: we are able to save when we hit apple+s on the AFP server it just don't let us save the copy on the AFP server by doing File-SaveAs. This was not an issue on keynote06

However copying the file locally and doing the work in the desktop seems to work fine. In which this is not an option for us as managers wanted to be able to view it.

The keynote06 before was a very solid app and we are using it to work and save directly on an AFP server.

Is you airport disk capable of setting access permissions? I have been battling for this for 3 days now setting the correct access permission on the AFP server. It just don't seems to work.

    I couldn't find anyway directly.

The only idea I can think of is saving as a PPT and then importing back from 06.
You have the option of saving as 08, so maybe 08 has a solution.
I think you can export to 06, but I'm not sure since I no longer have 06.

But why not try 08, and see how that goes for you?

la, no hope for 08.. It just crashes when the progress bar would went half way through. Tried also ppt but the text and graphics are not in place and there are a lot of things to be done when going through ppt->06 although we could revert the file to 06...

from 09 saveAs ppt then open it on 08 then saveAs 06 = lot of things to be redone.. huhuhu this is really a pain in the a** how i wish there is undo for file versioning..

    Its called backups
    Sorry I couldn't help myself.

But yes, downgrading the file will mess up many things.

I would personally try to resolves the issues with 09.
That way your keynotes will remain intact.

how? would you suggest where to start?

I am battling for this more than 3 days now and still does not have a temporary solution.. Although we can copy the files on the desktop and work on there but users tend to forget to copy it to their desktop because they were used to open directly on a mounted volume on their unit..
