Firmware update

Hi,

My software update keeps downloading the iMac EFI Firmware Version 1.2 (size 4.3mb) to my computer. I have downloaded and 'successfully' installed this update numerous times, but I keep receiving it, and reinstalling it.

Anyone else having this experience? Any fix for it?

Also, following correct installation, the Boot ROM version should be one the following three:

IM52.0090.809
IM52.0090.809
IM61.0093.807

My Boot ROM Version in System Profiler is:

IM52.0090.803

Which is why I keep receiving the update

Thanks

Are you sure its installed?
Your supposed to follow a few instructions to do that.

You can always remove the update from the list by pushing delete (back space) on your keyboard.
This tells OSX not to inform you of that update anymore.

When I follow the instructions (like any software update), and finally i get a green icon, and update installed successfully, then i can only assume the update has been installed.

I don't remember the process.
But I think you have to restart and then push a button (space or enter)

Just by downloading it in software update you won't also upgrade the firmware.~
Once it is downloaded, you have to navigate to your application folder>utilities and run the EFI Firmware Upgrade. Follow up the instructions.

Skoburn is right on the money. You need to follow the install instructions,, and then run the EFI firmware update from applications > utilities. When this is installed you need to shutdown your apple. Once it has shutdown.

Hold down the power button until the power indicator light flashes, then release it. A long tone will be heard, then a gray screen with an Apple logo appears. There is a progress bar under the logo. As the progress bar moves, your firmware is being updated.

Do not stop, unplug, your apple whilst the update is being applied.

Thank you everyone!

I have learned yet another facet to operating a Mac.

Firmware now fully updated and installed as per your instructions.

Thanks again,

Doesn't the EFI updater start automatically after downloading the update?

It does but all it does is give you instructions for what to do and you have to hold down power button like detailed earlier for the actual update to run.
