Back up

I have a 200GB iomega Hard drive and used to used iomega's automatic back up to back up all my files. Now that I have upgraded to Leapord, the time machine refuses to back up unless my External drive is formatted.

Is there any way I can get the time machine to back up to my external HD by partitioning the HD or is there any other alternative method.

Is there an issue with you formatting the hard drive? Leopard's disk utility will do that for you.
