Installing Leopard on eMac

Hi,

I want to install the Leopard on my eMac (config : G4, 1Ghz, 256 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD). When I tried to install Leopard on my eMac, it says you need a minimum of 512K RAM for installing Leopard.

I have 2 options

1. Try and get the RAM upgraded. I tried at iStyle store at Bur Dubai and Ibn but they don't have it. Also tried on ebay but am not sure if it would work.

2. Try and find out if there is any way of installing Leopard with just 256 MB RAM.

Any ideas to install Leopard on my eMac would be helpful.

I have good news and bad news!

The good news, you can buy RAM, relatively cheaply, at any computer store. Especially if you arent too worried about the brand. We have a whole cluster of computer stores in AD. I hear there is a "Computer Street" in Dubai. Get the type of RAM you need and go down there and get it. 1 gb of RAM for my iBook cost me 400 AED a year and a half ago. should be cheaper now.

The bad news, Not only can you not run leopard with 256 mb of RAM, but the minimum of 512 is (in my opinion, as a user) no where near enough. You will hate 10.5 unless you have 1 gb of RAM.

Good luck!

Actually older types of RAM become more expensive with time.
So don't be surprised if you have to pay more.
I don't know the prices.
But, I think it is now 500Dhs.

You might want to skip Leopard on that machine.

Now I feel bad.
Just kidding.
And I don't mean to be harsh.
But its better than putting more money into it.

I'm sure that machine has given many years of good service.
And it can continue to do that, only without Leopard.

Thats why I never upgraded my iBook past the maxing out the RAM. when 10.5 came out It was time for new hardware.

You should feel bad! you probably cause "Post G4 Mac Stress Disorder" Happy now?

I agree with the others, even if you could somehow hack 10.5 to run on 256Mb, you really don't want to.

You can also try MacSales.com for RAM. They seem to have compatible RAM.

You could also just ask around in the Bur Dubai area. I did that last year and got RAM for an old PowerMac G4 pretty cheap.

Finally I installed Leopard on my emac. Upgraded my emac to 1GB RAM (costed me 800 bucks) and then formatted my hard disk and installed the leopard. Feels like I have got a new Mac.
