Bento

I've just got a copy of Bento a smaller version of File Maker capabilities. Just had it and installed it today. First impression it is a great little piece of software. If you need to do anything with Data Base type of filing and at a reasonable price this is the perfect solution. For a heavy programmer this might not be to flexible. But for a reasonable expectations and an intermediate needs from such type of software I would say it is one of the best.

Some Features:

- Easy to use no programming
- SQL capabilities not programming
- Integrates easily with iCal and iContact
- Pre-loaded formats for differing needs
- Customizable to a certain extent (but more than basics)
- Capability of creating your own structure that fits your specific needs
- Good for any type of Database needing business with not much sophistication
- Around AED 443/- for a family pack of five.
- Allows storage/attachment of other external files within individual records
- Your choice of how it looks and what to integrate with like iCal and iContact

This is as much as I can tell you now, if I find anything interesting will keep you posted.

Regards,

Sarie Arar

I've been meaning to try it out. Thanks for sharing, could we use this in a future issue of Shuffle?

i have purchased a copy like 4 months ago didnt like to use it ever since... its cool and all, but when i tried transferring my contacts from my Address Book... it copied everything the way it should except the Pictures.. and when i found out it wont copy the pics i got pissed off, cause i worked so hard in adding everyones Photo to my list of 900 contacts... so i just put it a side... and i am so not going through adding all those pictures again....

Hello Appleholic,

to add the pictures you need to have a picture field in your data base, without the field I do not think you can transfer it, as it does not have anywhere to display. As far as I know, it reads from the iContact data base. However you can create your own data base under Bento and then you have to dit all over again but it will your style your way. Meanwhile, I am not sure about automatic transfer if it will be done, but it will be worth a try. Let me know how it goes if you decide to give it a second shot. My contact list is very small with no pictures hence I cannot test it properly.
