As I am still a mac newbie, I have no bittorent loaded, I use utorrent on my PC but just found it isn't fully up on a Mac yet. Which bittorent downloader do you use on the mac?

I like XTorrent because it's so Mac-y, and Azureus because it's so full of functionality.

Since you ask - what do you think?

My view is that BitTorrent technology is nothing bad or evil in itself. In fact, it's a pretty fantastic technology which makes distribution of especially larger files easier and cheaper for whoever is distributing them. I often download things like Linux distros, which is perfectly legal and acceptable use of BitTorrent.

That said, BitTorrent technology is used a lot to illegally distribute software, movies, music, books, etc. and that's not good. So in that sense there's a user beware message, sure.

Infinite Loop is correct, most of your linux distros are now available via torrent. In my old company I had a requirement to update over 1,000 field boxes, and I used a certificate server and placed them all in a P2P network to distribute the new Linux image that I intended to install on them. It was highly effective.

So because something is controversial it is evil? That's interesting... There's nothing illegal about downloading and using a BitTorrent client, it's what you upload/download with that client that may or may not be legal. You want something legal to download? Here you go: DistroWatch.

I will vote for xtorrent. Torrent is very good technology which is being accepted by even bigger corporation like Apple and Microsoft. It helps the company to save lot of download bandwidth.

    Cheers
