Time Machine

Time Machine is great, having come home from the store with my new MBP, I thought I was in for a lengthy target disk session, but NO NO NO. Leopard has the amazing ability to setup everything using a time machine backup, so everything came over from my old PB, perfectly, I lost a couple of licence keys but nothing that couldn't be fixed. I did do a fresh install for Office 2008 and all of my Adobe software, and now all is good!!!!!

Time Machine rocks

Yes it does...

I did the same when I got an iMac this month, all the data from my MB was copied.

Feels good to have a truly complete backup system that restores EVERYTHING. To me it's more valuable than restoring a certain old file by using Time Machine in its default mode.

Why don't u transfer your settings thru firewire?

I haven't used Time Machine much.
But I think it lacks many features. (especially size management)
Its a great way to get newbie's to back up, but not for professionals.
To make things worse, Entourage uses a single DB that will constantly trigger transfers on Time Machine.

Certainly there are more complicated/professional applications out there, but the best thing about it that it is very convenient for your everyday use, and it almost works without you feeling about it.
I guess that would be even better once Time Capsule is out!
