    Parallels-6

Parallels 6 worked great the first day I used it.

I installed Windows-7, everything ran smooth. I even installed Rise of Nations and played a game to see how it worked.
Imagine my surprise when I tried to open my Virtual Machine again, when I got greeted with an error...
"Unable to Connect to Parallels Service"

There is a Link which does not help me much, seeming that I'm not having an issue with my Firewall.

The steps provided are also far off, seeming that I don't have such a process running according to the Terminal.

Any ideas or suggestions before contacting Parallels Support?
    Greatly appreciated.

PS. Forgot to mention that it runs again if I re-install Parallels. It seems like something goes heywire when I reboot, because the VM just doesn't start. (I do not need to reinstall Windows to access the VM again)

hmm, quite a puzzle indeed. There is another technote here, which allegedly applies only to PD 4 and 5, but... it mentions the issue could be with the Mac network configuration, esp. Firewall, or else Little Snitch, etc. Worth checking maybe?

On a side note, is that the alert you're getting? I can't believe the reason given: "...or your Mac may be down." Seriously ?!?

    Cheers,
    -Michl

Err, this is not quite it. This is my error... Yet the recommendation does not work. In the Terminal, the response is that there are no such service running when I enter "$ sudo launchctl stop com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon"

    Strange????

Parallels6 Desktop - Mac view for windows 7

Hi I had installed parallels6 desktop in my brand new imac 21" and had windows 7 running in the vm. Everything is perfect! Only that I got interested in the MacView function for windows 7 which I tried from the VM menu. I received an error stating " There is not enough disc space or you are not authorised to proceed , pls contact the customer service". Did an online chat with the customer service and the agent always told me that they would get back to me, but all I receive is an email regularly noting that the problem has been resolved and whether I was satisfied with the service!
The heck Im satisfied! Could anyone take me step by step as to how I could get the mac view !

Indeed it is. I just fired PD6 then the Win7 VM. Once fully loaded etc. in Terminal I did:

    launchctl list | grep parallels
    36980 - [0x0-0x18e18e].com.parallels.desktop.console
    481 - com.parallels.vm.prl_pcproxy
    - 0 com.parallels.desktop.client.launch

So you see there is no "com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon". You might want to look for that "com.parallels.desktop.client.launch" and stop that instead(?)
    Cheers,

While I was there in PD6_Win 7 (cf. previous post) I tried to find that "MacView function" you're talking about... "from the VM menu". No such thing.

The only thing close enough would be the "Use MacLook" feature in the "View menu". Is that what you are referring to??

Well, guess what - I have exactly the same problem, same error message, etc. I don't need the feature but... FYI.

Just curious to know how Windows 7 will have a Maclook. Well I have paid for it anyway. Will keep trying with the P6 Dsktp customer service .

Well the answer is not hard to find - see for instance PD's own page on the topic:
What is MacLook and how to use it?
"The MacLook theme for your Windows virtual machine is a predefined set of icons, fonts, colors, and other elements that makes the Windows guest OS look like Mac OS X."
    There is a picture too...

The note on the same page may be the answer to our problem:
"Note: This theme is available for Windows XP and later Windows guest operating systems with up to date Parallels Tools installed. To be able to use this theme, you need to log in to Windows as an administrator."

Also the technote: MacLook cannot be enabled
"Parallels Desktop starts downloading but fails to install it.
Cause: Most probably the user account you use in your virtual machine doesn't have administrative privileges"
    Cheers,
    -Michl
