    Trash

For some unknown reason deleting trash from the bin just takes for ever! I have turned off the secure empty tab which does not make any difference. Has anyone had experience of this phenomena, if so is there a fix?

You're using Snow Leopard, right? It seems for some reason many people have seen this problem after upgrading.

Yes turning off Secure Empty Trash is the main solution here, so if you've already done that... Seems some magic / voodoo may be required, such as turning off Show Warning and then on again (don't ask me, it's just been reported to help, what can I say...)

Sometimes it's a particular file in the Trash that causes problems, whether locked or corrupted etc. One way to fix it is to use the Terminal, go to your Trash directory (cd ~/.Trash), and then when you're there (and you're really really sure you're inside .Trash and not your home dir) delete everything (rm -rf * .??*) ... After that it should work fine again.
    Cheers,

Thanks. I just let it run all night and yes it took 8 hrs to clear my trash! I will try your remedy next time.
