What's the site all about?
This is the home of EmiratesMac User Group, an Apple User Group in the United Arab Emirates. Read more about the User Group, our activities, and how to become a member on the User Group page.
Site history
In an attempt to help spread the word about Apple's products in general and the Macintosh in particular throughout the UAE, this web site was founded in October 2005. For the first few months it existed at Emirates Mac as the personal blog of Magnus Nystedt. Then in March 2006 we moved to new hosting and the site was developed into what you see today.
The main reason for starting EmiratesMac was a feeling that there was a need for more information about Apple, Mac, and iPod and related issues in the UAE. We realized there is a dedicated but largely silent Apple-community in the Emirates and we wanted to offer them a platform where they could meet each other, help each other out with problems, and to educate people about the benefits of Macs and iPods.
It should be pointed out that what we write on this site is our opinions and no one else's.
The site
The site is hosted at Rackspace, the domain is registered with GoDaddy. MacUAE created the UAE/Apple picture you see at the top left, as well as the favicon you should see in the address/location bar. The site runs vBulletin. If you find something that is strange or not working, let us know and we'll try to fix it as soon as we can.
We try to test the site's appearance and functionality in as many operating systems and browsers as possible, but regularly we check in MacOSX and Windows XP, with Safari, and Firefox (and sometimes Internet Explorer). The site assumes users have at least a 1024x768 resolution.
