Seemless Mode makes the application appear as though it is almost native to the OS. and pop ups such as meeting requests from Outlook appear and cross virtual desktops.
Actually, both Parallels Desktop and VMWare Fusion have this feature. They call it "Coherence" and "Unity", respectively. Both also integrate nicely the Windows Start menu within the Dock. Of course every new version brings yet better integration and more features...

Yes I stunned colleagues many times by showing them that Outlook window amidst my Mac apps -- always they were like "wait, I thought there was no Outlook for Mac, only Entourage". ah ah geek fun I suppose

Absolutely. My answers: 1) Yes. 2) No. 3) Same here.

Yes but for instance if one wants Snow Leopard then one needs to upgrade PD to the latest v4 even if v3 is sufficient feature-wise, etc. This is the system upgrade inflation. [1] [2]

But you're right. Believe it or not a friend of mine is still running his 12-year old Mac Performa with Office 98(!) Out of pure charity I gave him my Mac OS 9.1 disks so he could have "the best OS" for his machine...

    Parallels Desktop V4

    Hi guys and gals...

Still new to my mac, however I also came across the requirement to have windows for Salik and Hallmark card Studio, etc...

Sadly there does not seem to be a mac version available for the above.
That's why I installed Parallels in just over 3-clicks, with Vista. (I know XP would have been faster, but sadly I only have Vista.)

Everything seems to work fine... "Touch wood."

Quick, Easy and Effective... I'll cast my vote to PARALLELS

I'll let you know if I need to moan and groan soon...
    Cheers.
Been there, done that... Converted to Mac...

I dont mean to be a fun kill, but if dubai can build a billion $ metro system, i think they need to get into the habit of cross browser compatibility too.

    8. Which browser is Dubai.ae most compatible with?

Dubai.ae is most compatible with Internet Explorer, Version 6 and above. All features and formatting do not work perfectly in Firefox, Safari, Netscape and other browsers.

In regards to Salik, luckily, many banks now support payments from their website.
Making the unsightly view of a WIndows desktop less frequent.

But then its still a little inconvenient isnt it ? Even if you pay the salik with banks, DEWA, police etc all use the dubai payment portal. And being so vastly used by all, they should have considered other systems the website would run on. Me thinks M$ pays a royalty for a IE only payment portal.

Personally, I would prefer the bank over the Salik website.
But that doesn't negate that the site should be OS independent.
But the fact remains that we live in a Windows world.
And its easier for developers to forget about other OSes, especially when all they know is .NET.
And I doubt this is a big concern to the powers that be.
After all, when the programmer shows it to them he says "it works fine, see?!!"

at this stage I would go find myself Net or openBSD and slap it on there. Even with OS9 on his box will still be vulnerable to any security exploits that apple didn't resolve prior to the OS being end of lifed.

Good point but, you see, that Performa contains his contracts, accounting, and lots of other legal and business documents, so it's OFF the net! So no worry, it's a little island trapped in the space-time continuum!! For the same reason, though, and his using Word and Excel '98 and FileMaker what, 5 maybe?, he's stuck there and cannot switch...

    Cool

Back to the topic guys, i vote for Parallels despite being VERY LOAYL long term user of VMWare server products and VMware Windows desktop apps. I just found that Parallels on mac is much better integrated and really ONLY one emulation software that support IA64 platform (yep, Fusion, VBox etc etc does not), properly map attached USB devices, has faster that others network stack especially in NAT/bridged modes. .... So really no-brainer vote for Parallels v4 and upcoming 5.

Regards compatibility of websites for Mac and mac-friendly global effort, I think people doing what pays the bills. For the moment its Windows, so dont blame developers you dont know how difficult to support even few Windows versions... But the must try, at least for websites. You guys love to blame microsoft but ALL microsoft websites are MAC friendly even Hotmail/MSN portal.

In this middle-country we have little choice as mac users. That's why we need virtualisation....
/* all these things we'll one day swallow whole and fade out again and fade out again....
