Disk-space to install and run Windows XP Greetings - Thanks again to the guys who responded so quickly to my initial queries about Arabic on the Macintosh. I've been in Jeddah for nearly a month now, and I still haven't opened up my new MacBook Pro, thinking I might wish to sell it. However, I am now feeling slightly eager to put it to work - insha'Allah. One issue that I haven't resolved is whether installing Windows XP will take up so much disk space that having a 120 gigabyte hard disk will not be much of an advantage. Specifically, I was wondering how much disk space Windows would require. Maybe I ought to consider other things as well, which I'm not aware of, besides just the disk-space. Any ideas? Adnan

Windows XP itself doesn't take up much space. Remember it ships on a regular CD-ROM. It goes into just a few GB. The applications you install take up space as well as the files you save. That's where the space goes to. If you don't plan to install anything too big, you'd probably be okay with a 20GB Windows partition, thus leaving 100GB for Mac OS X.

Ok - thanks! Sorry for the delay in responding. Yeah, that helps. I priced Windows locally, too. I've read that Photoshop is faster running on Windows on the Mac, but I've got it on my Lombard and hope to tinker with my Powerbook OS install/restore CDs and some things called sheep-saver and ROM-grabber to migrate my old Photoshop and Illustrator to my new MacBook, insha'Allah. If I install Windows, I suppose it might be in order to run MS Word or something like that; no big deal, I guess.
