Congratulations![]()
Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right place to post about this, please let me know if there is a more appropriate forum.
I got it yesterday
I was concerned about it's condition as I read on the Apple forums that quite a bit of users received theirs with either the screen cracked or the iMac was DOA. Thankfully mine was ok even though it made about 9 stops till it got to Abu Dhabi, phew.
I've posted some pictures if any are interested, nothing like the Gizmodo or engadget sites of course, but I was in a hurryas you can imagine.
Here is the link: MobileMe Gallery

Stay hungry. Stay Foolish.
Could you inform the specs of your machine? 2TB hard drive & ram 8GB or 16GB?
Enlighten us.
Hi again,
Thanks guys, much appreciated.
It's a 1TB with 8GB (4x2) RAM.
One interesting tidbit, I ordered the wired keyboard since I already have the new wireless one, I figured this way I'll have the numeric keypad if I needed it plus the USB hub, what I didn't know was that there is a wired keyboard less the keypad, it's the same size as the wireless one.
I tried Handbrake (64 bit version) today and it's wicked fast, I don't use it much but wanted to push the machine, wasn't much of a challenge for the iMac. I converted a 2012 clip from the Apple website, 1920x912 H.264, 325.7 MB file. It's only a five minute clip which isn't that big, but the iMac just went through it what seemed like pretty quick, this isn't a scientific test or benchmark, just me trying some stuff.
I'm still using my PowerMac (Dual 2.7 GHz) machine, can't part with it as it still runs great. But I can see and feel the difference immediately with the iMac.
Don't know if you guys care about the pricing but I'm sharing it in case you are. The BTO price was $2,400 with free delivery (to a US address of course). It took approximately 4 days from Shanghai to the US and then another 4 days to get here. The shipping cost to Abu Dhabi including custom fees was approximately 1,400 AED. So all in all the total cost was approximately 102,62 AED.
I believe the stock 2.66GHz Intel Core i5 with 4GB RAM is going to be sold here for 10,000 if I'm not mistaken. I didn't see the i7 priced, I might have missed it, but I'm guessing with the 8GB it would cost more than 10,262. I don't know if mine is covered under international warranty, I hope I won't need it.

So you ordered directly from the apple US website?
Wow, you risked the possible DOA and cracked screen issues.
I am also considering ordering one, but I don't what to do if I get one with problems....ship back to the US....then Apple will know I ordered from abroad and won't honor the warranty???
The UAE apple store also won't honor the warranty as it was not ordered through them??
