Apple immune to Windows 7 impact

Microsoft’s introduction of Windows 7 later this month won’t cost Apple any Mac sales, a Wall Street analyst said Monday.

“I analyzed the impact of the last four Windows launches and found no negative correlation between them and Mac sales,” said Brian Marshall of Broadpoint AmTech. “In fact, [Microsoft’s launches] almost act like a delayed accelerant on Mac sales.” After comparing Mac sales with the launches of Windows 98 in June 1998, Windows 2000 (February 2000), Windows XP (October 2001) and Vista (January 2007), Marshall found that in all but the case of Windows 2000, Mac sales either increased or stayed steady.

I think anybody considering a Mac won't be swayed to switch back to PC.
At least because of the OS itself.
If one does, it will be because they need Windows at work or something like that.

But this time Windows 7 is the closest MS got to OSX.
I wonder if there is a change.

I would be carful to suggest that anything is immune to anything after I saw what my professors told me were "rocks" of wall-street crumble in front of my eyes.

Not linking the computer companies to the economic times, I'm just saying that anything can happen.

I have also heard that M$ is going to release a "Zune phone" even though their CEO made fun of the idea of a computer company releasing a phone when the 1st iPhone came out.

Windoze 7 looks crisp. Thats all I can say. I havent used it, and dont intend to. What isnt broken shouldnt be fixed or replaced. and OSX is far far far from broken.

    Cool

I think Windows 7 64-bit miles and miles ahead of OSX 10.6 which is more service pack of leopard rather than completely new OS.

The vegetable company struggle to sell overpriced hardware everywhere around the globe and middle something countries no exception to this trend. New mac mini SERVERs just tell me how big is panic in apple team. More over Windows 7 completely steal the show from OSX in all computer magazines, TV shows etc etc.

In a crisis and post-crisis world Mac looks more like expensive home toy and Windows platform more focused on getting work done, more business oriented. And easy to predict good sales for Windows 7 in very near future.

    I use both OS's...yet..
/* all these things we'll one day swallow whole and fade out again and fade out again....

    LOL
Win7 is more of a service pack than SL is.
And for 800 AED (on sale) a rip off at that.

I don't like the Mini server, just as much as I hate Windows Home Server.
But at least Mini Server is more than a glorified NAS.

As always, you keep saying Macs are no good for work, but fail to explain how companies like Google & Sun use it.

I have said W7 is a good OS since I first saw it.
But most of those reviews recommend NOT to upgrade from XP for so many.
So by that account, it's not much of an upgrade from an OS that is 8 years old.

I give you props for being able to decode hakka's post. I was lost by the 2nd line of the post.

I'm not sure how OSX isnt a viable work environment when I have used nothing but a mac for 7 years now and have gotten all my work done.

Alice said it best... Curiouser and curiouser...

Yeah, should have been "the fruit company", i.e. Apple, not "vegetable"

The trend reported is well known, has been for years. And it seems to be confirmed once again.

    It's all about disappointed expectations.

    Cheers,

Really, what does it matter whether we call it a "completely new OS" or "service pack"? At $29 for SL I think it was great value, much better value than Win 7.
