I can't believe I'm saying this but, is this a joke?
And no the iPhone can't run Mathematica in the background either, and the screen's too puny to watch HDTV movies, and there is no proper keyboard...
You need a Mac, not an iPhone. End of story.
So we shall skip the symantics of your multi tasking, and go straight for the real world - Apple Iphone example which is what I meant by multi tasking. Lets say I want to quote a line from the movie fear and loathing in las vegas and place it on my facebook page on my iphone. I fire up my web browser hit imdb and look for the movie. Then I push the home button at the bottom and fire up facebook. Then I get stuck in facebook and it takes me a good 10 to 12 minutes to get back to my quote, but I still want it. So what I do is I fire back up the web browser and sure it enough it is exactly in the same position I last left it. I has not loaded the page. So I have to wait.
So to avoid your next response about time sharing and cooperative vs pre-emptive multi tasking. I repeat the same above process but this time after facebooking for say 10 to 12 minutes I push the home button and leave it alone. I go have lunch and come back 45 minutes later. I fire up my web browser and it still remains in the same state. It has not loaded fear and loathing in las vegas yet it is still waiting for me as it requires focus rather than it processing things in the background. This is what I mean't by multi tasking. Certain Apple Applications require focus in order to order to work. If I could fire and forget then it might be a lot easier.
