Not impressed. Just a glorified iPod Touch in my opinion.

Most people would want the 64GB version as for all the features that it offers; even that much wouldn't be enough. At a price point of $829, i'd rather just spend a few hundred dollars more and get a macbook instead.

Sure, there'll still be a market for Macbooks. The iPad is really a different product - and I believe it'll be hugely successful, whereas the Macbook Air... (that one I wouldn't bet on).

Watching the video might change your mind though...

Personally I'd more look at the entry level, at $429, which is a fantastic tool for education. I'll definitely get one for each of my kids (they're 10 and 12).

My wife doesn't need anything more powerful than the iPad 3G either - mail, internet, social network, and she can use iWork on it! - and then the iPad will fit nicely in her bag, as she just pointed out
    Cheers,

Who glorified it? Its a product put out there by a company, and it seems like a good product by a great company. No one "glorified" it.

But I'd like to know what you dont like about it? They said they were releasing a TABLET. It's a tablet. Pretty straight forward. Its also a tablet that offers alot for less than many tablets (A toshiba one cost like 4000 dirhams a while back)

either its too iPod touchish, or too netbookish, or too... blah blah. That simply means you arent in the market for a tablet. Its not meant to REPLACE a Mac, but like a netbook, to be your 2nd computer.

Personally, I think it's great EXCEPT for one issue. I used my Netbook and will use it in hotels when I travel. Most hotels only offer cables for internet access IN ROOM. meaning you need an ethernet jack on your device.

Without that, I doubt this would be alot of good for some people including me.

I believe more and more hotels are switching to WiFi instead - at least that is my experience... Simply because customers want it: instead of being stuck at the writing desk you can surf from your bed, balcony, etc.

Or, you could just travel with an Airport Express and create your own instant WiFi network!

By the way, have you seen the iPad accessories ?! Gotta love that dock + keyboard combo!

And one more thing check the iPad app store.
    Cheers,
    -Michl

More and more hotels WHERE? That is the question. Some places I end up in dont even offer dial up in rooms, and only wifi in the lobby.

Hell, even many 5 star hotels in Dubai dont offer wireless in room, but a large amount do offer ethernet connections. That is an important connectivity tool for a portable. It should be able to connect in any way possible. Plus, Im secretly inlove with Ubuntu 9.10, as I havent used that OS since 6.04 and it has become AMAZINGLY as what they originally were talking about. Gasp! I might defect back from mac to the very OS that made me leave! lol.

Well Apple's excuses have been mostly that of its robustness and also performance. Now with the iPad boasting a really fast A4 processor, one can hope they will change their tune...

In fact there is a claim Flash has been sighted on the iPad: "while they loaded the National Geographic website it appeared to have loaded a flash ad."

Meanwhile, Adobe has been working on a workaround, also there are other solutions too, and then HTML 5 is around the corner...

Sure, if you go that way... and backpackers hotels don't have internet either.

Well on my last trip to HK I had wifi in the room, in Singapore too, and even Hanoi(!)

But anyway like I said, traveling with an Airport Express is a perfectly viable solution.
Assuming the hotel has internet in the room, of course.

beautiful product with a small memory... i would've preferred something with a bigger memory... or maybe expandable? i wonder if the wireless HD function of the airport extreme will work... doubt it... anyway, great product though,,, very very sleek nothing less expected
