It is not surprising, surely all these softwares whether they are OSes or an application requires continuous updates and maintenance, it is just that we don't know about them.

10.5.3 has been playing games with my airport, so I hope the new update comes VERY SOON.

If Leopard wasn't problematic enough with Adobe's CS3, then the latest upgrade was disastrous for many users. Designers using CS3 applications who save their files to XServe are basically corrupting their files that way.
Dov Isaac of Adobe says

(We didn't know when 10.5.3 was actually going to be released until it was discovered by our own employees which was about the same time users on this forum discovered the availability of the 10.5.3 update!) We do have to deal with Apple's very secretive development environment, for better or worse. (We and the general public know more about the next version of Windows that we know about the next "dot" update for MacOS X, quite unfortunately!)
Apple obviously have acknowledged this problem and are fixing it currently.

I didn't have any particular problems with 10.5.3 and the first dev release of 10.5.4 also works fine so far. Not really found out if there's anything new though.
