MacBook to receive speed bumps?

This is from the ThinkSecret folks:

Quote:
Apple is set to introduce updated MacBook laptops following the release of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard later this month, sources report. With Leopard on track to hit stores October 26, the updated MacBooks could be consumer hands by the first half of November, if not sooner.

Sources believe the MacBook update will not be too substantial, instead mirroring a similar speed bump the systems received last November ahead of the holiday buying season. It is unclear at this time whether this means the MacBook will maintain its current architecture and receive faster processors, from the current 2.0/2.16GHz configurations to 2.16/2.33GHz, or whether it will adopt the newer Santa Rosa architecture that the MacBook Pro gained earlier this year.

Santa Rosa delivers faster processor speeds, up to 2.8GHz, although the MacBook in unlikely to top 2.2GHz to avoid feature parity with the MacBook Pro. Other enhancements provided by Santa Rosa include a full 64-bit architecture with support for up to 4GB of RAM, a faster 800MHz system bus, and on systems that use Intel's on-board GMA graphics like the MacBook, improved graphics performance.

Apple is not expected to update the MacBook Pro before the end of the year, and sources at this time don't expect any other Mac hardware to see a revision before the holidays.
I am going to closely watch this as I am all for a MacBook and an upgrade to Santa Rosa and ability to add more RAM from max of 2 to 4 that would be AMAZING!!!! and the faster system bus an icing cake, I hope this turns out to be true.........

If you are asking to exchange your old macbook to the new one - yes you may do so.

But, if Apple is going to upgrade the Processor Speed, System Bus and Santa Rosa Architecture - Then you cannot as your processor is incompatible with the processor you have and as far as I know you cannot upgrade the processor in your mb.

This also means you cannot have more than 2 gb ram on your system unless there is a firmware upgrade thought I think that may not be possible as the motherboard and processor on your macbook may not support it.

So, a clean alternative for you is to exchange your current macbook to the new one, since yours is relatively new you may have to pay less for the upgrade depending on your negotiation skills with the vendor

A better alternative would be to sell your macbook and the you add a lil more and you would have a shining new macbook.

Please do not understand this as me saying that you can just go and tell them you want to exchange, I don't think they will agree straightaway or they have an exchange policy, it would be wonderful if you could talk to the store from where you bought this and ask them can you exchange?

Also, for using Leopard you do not need to upgrade. If that's the only reason why you want to upgrade.

Well honestly speaking..I am fine with the speed of my Macbook as I keep things organized..Soo, mainly I want Leopard and a few programs for video editing and music as well..
What would be best to do..? My parents won't let me sell my Macbook thats for sure.

I got it from iStyle at Ibn Batuta.

Well for leopard - You do not need to update, all you need to do is buy the Leopard Disc from iStyle and for video editing it depends on your usage of video editing and the need for it. As for video editing, the MacBook Pro is a better choice as it has a dedicated graphics card.

But, if all you do is use iMovie for editing your home videos than you can use macbook with a 2 gb ram and it should be enough.

I very much doubt it. I don't think you can take your MB back and pick up a new. You'll have to try to sell your MB and then buy a new one. We'll see what Apple IMC ME announces, but I doubt you can do that.
