I moved the thread to a better forum... First, as far as I know, there aren't the same heat and noise issues on the MB, that's really the MBP. There have been some issues of paint discoloration or something, but nothing that's been brought up in this site. Are you an experience computer user? If you are, you probably know what to do to keep your computer clean and free from spyware, viruses, and stuff like that. Would you run Windows XP on that Sony if you bought it? Then be prepared to run a number of applications just to keep the computer and the data safe. You don't need that on a Mac. That doesn't mean you shouldn't be careful with attachments and things on a Mac too, but it means there are less of these kinds of problems with a Mac. I think Mac OS X is better than Windows XP in pretty much every respect. Apple also makes good-looking and high-quality hardware. You get a reliable computer - both hw and sw - if you buy a Mac. And now the absence of support in the UAE (I assume you're in the Emirates) is less of an issue since there's this site and our User Group. If you are going to use your computer in an all-Windows corporate environment and have to run Windows-only software all the time, obviously buying a Mac is not the best idea, I think. But in pretty much any other situation, a Mac is a better choice. | |

I think the current support level offered by local resellers & the advice and help you get on this site complement each other. I have been a PC user for YEARS... was difficult decision, maybe at first, but seeing that you can pretty much do anything with a Mac that you do with a PC, it was no brainer. AND these days you can run Windows XP on an intel Mac along with Mac OS X (dual boot with Boot Camp), which pretty much makes buying a Mac a better choice for your money!

Well i have been using a compaq presario 2500 for 3 years and im getting frustrated with the fan noise, viruses. I Know Macbook is a good computer but i doubted it when i heard about the heat and "mooing"sounds. I live in dubai but now im in iran and i can get the macbook for 6000 dhs which is cheaper than here. Note:What is the type of its power plug??American type?

The MB is not meant for gamers, at least not the latest 3D-type games. It may run them, but not at the highest quality settings. And you cannot upgrade the video ram. About the plug, I'm guessing you get the two-round prong plug. But whatever plug you get it's easy enough to get a converter which you may have to anyway. Most power sockets here in the UAE are the UK type with two/three square prongs.

You mean dial-up? Do you mean dial-up modem? If so, yes it doesn't have dial-up modem and you would have to get the external USB one. Whether there are any other solution, I don't know, but there are no expansion slots on the MB. But do you really need dial-up?
