Dumping windows and not losing Skype

Hi all,

Great to meet everyone at the meeting last week.

I have a predicament, that I know someone will be able to answer. I an about ready to reformat my drive to reduce/eliminate XP from my Macbook Pro. The trouble is, I don't want to lose Skype, which currently runs through OS X.

If we lose Skype, we lose contact with friends and family in North America and my wife would kill me.

So, can I buy someone a coffee (or a beer) to get the step by step on how not to lose Skype while I reinstall OS X.

I've currently just dragged it to an external HD to run from there, will that be enough?

if you wanna export your contacts from a mac version skype ...
then .. wait for others to help you.. cause i don't have one at this moment
and .. i have done searching while writing this post .. but nothing came ..

I thought Skype maintains the contact list.
I don't know if you can export contacts on Skype for Mac.
But it can import.

If you want to remove the Boot Camp partition only.
you can do that without erasing OSX.

I'm not sure what all these people on the other forum are talking about. Skype keeps a list of contacts on their server so it appears which ever computer you log in to. It also links to your address book, so you just need to migrate that to any other computer if you want to use SkypeOut.

I guess I need to know if anyone has run skype from an external drive... after they've reformatted their hard drive.

I can drag skype to the external drive and run it now, but I'm guessing that it's using the sfoteware stored on the computer, not the ext. drive. When I reformat my computer, I'll be losing the Skype software, and I can't dn-load that from their site. ( blocked)

If you've done this please let me know... I want to get into Final Cut Studio... and need the space currently being taken up by XP.

if it's about downloading the skype while it's blocked here.. it's easy
just use hotspot-Shield or any utility to download it..

try this one.. it works in Windows . so download it and keep it before removing xp..

And you can use this file to give the app to other users.

If you used boot camp you can simply delete the windows partition and recover the space back to your OS X partition without having to reformat your HD.

Went to the help icon, typed in "remove XP" There are the instructions... no need to reformat.
