I believe Mac Mini only makes sense if one already has a large monitor for use -- but that is your case so, good for you.
However note that the Mac Mini is really end of line, cf. Macrumors' Buyers Guide.
And yes, 4GB RAM is the limit, which makes it so-so for heavy Photoshop or movie editing work.
Can't beat the price though.

well michl ... thankx for your comment in the before buying time :P... now i am going to hold back again.....
it is the exact reason you mentioned above that led me to go for a mini...
since i am new to the mac world.. do you think getting a mini and get used to it and only after felling the need to "evolve :P" go for a higher one? "a mini can still be used for multimedia or so, right?"

Like others said, multimedia are no problem. It's the Photoshop thing that depends, ok for the rest of us I think, but not for pro use...
Anyway the latest mini has been pushed to 2.66GHz, you want that one. Performance is on par with mid-2009 iMac or Macbook Pro - perfectly fine with most people.
You can check detailed benchmarks online... In fact that everymac.com article states that the mini can support 8GB RAM(!) Unofficial, but it works.
