Hi,
A friend of mine is looking to rent out her Macbook Pro
specs as follows:
15" MacBookPro
2.16 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
2 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRam
128 MB ATI Radeon
The thing is she got this idea from somewhere, but has no idea how she should charge. or what she should do as security for her system.
You know as in in case of damages etc...
Any one have any ideas?
yeah, thats what I told her too.
But she still wants to try, as she's not too keen on selling it either.
1. She has to get insurance for her MacBook so that if there is any damage it is covered.
2. She has to have AppleCare as with usage comes wear and tear and you wouldn't want to pay for something like repairs.
3. In the UAE, you can always take the passport copy and/or a drivers license/labor card copy so that if anything happens you can still go to the police. Thats a risk mitigation strategy, not sure if it can always be effective.
4. I would price it as per this:
Current Prices I can get by selling divided by 365 days = per day rate of replacement
Depreciation of 30% on the current prices divided by 365 days = wear and tear per day
Insurance cost divided by 365 days (if 1 year insurance) = per day insurance cost
AppleCare divided by 730 days (AppleCare for 2 years) = per day Apple Care Cost
So my price per day would be:
per day rate of replacement + wear and tear per day + per day insurance cost + per day Apple Care cost + profit margin
5. But, she has to be ready for disputes etc, as it is difficult to hold someone particular responsible. For example, if someone rents it out and comes and gives back and when she is checking her macbook and its fine, she stores it and then next day she opens and it doesnt work whom do u blame?
6. Its too much of a headache, unless she is using it as a pilot for a fullblown mac rental business.
