Green,

there are two ways to do this..

The first method is using OS X Server Open Directory and Workgroup manager you can control to deny mounting of any USB storage devices to any usb port. I have heard that It can be done only using Workgroup MAnager if you have one try playing around with it and let us know if it works

The second method is to remove “System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext” from the /System/Library/Extensions directory

Good Luck!

thanks maccebu,

as u said I found these solutions, but for the 1st one it's not posable for my environment so I switch to delete mass storage class, but u have to restore it each time u want to enable USB again.
Am looking 4 3rd party application solve this issue.

Thanks again maccebu.

regards

BTW: how can I use workgroup Manager to manage it and I don't have Mac OS X Server installed.

Am thinking that I can run WGM locally on my laptop and in address put the target machine I want to manage but it doesn't work, it's said "too many connections " or "it's reach the maximum number of users logged on", I tried to log off current user but still the same.

any ideas please

thanks

green,

I just heard that WGM can do it but never really tried doing it, however what I've tried is when using WGM it will ask for a server to connect to, you can try using your local machine computer name with it e.g. computername.local together with admin username and password then the WGM application will run but upto this point I do not know if it is possible to manage the macs without using the Open Directory server.

If it will not work then I guess you needed the OS X Server and install the OpenDirectory service in order for the WGM to work and to manage those macs - this one I have tried it several times and its a beauty how you can control those macs.

Else you start googling on third party applications that will control the USBs.

goodluck!
