Storage for mixed environment. A friend is looking for some kind of storage (NAS or SAN) for a mixed environment (both PC & Mac). The network is managed by a Windows server. The problem is they can't put artwork done on a Mac in a Windows server because it is messing up all the links. So what they need is a storage that both PCs and Macs can access while maintaining privileges and accessing Active Directory. Any suggestions?

Basically they do art design, and Illustrator creates links to other files. When you move that over to a PC formated disc, it ruins the name, and thus the links don't work anymore. What they need is a central storage solution that will keep Mac names intact, but PC users can use.

Apple - Server - Storage Apple - Xsan - Features - Resources - Compatibility i think you should find all what you're looking for in that link.

Parapod, The problem with MacDrive is that it doesn't maintain privileges. Elchemor, Thats what I suggested, but they thought that is an overkill when all it would do is storage. But this is does makes the best sense in my opinion.

I don't know what it is, but its all Windows servers. Clients are both Macs & Windows. I guess they have around 150 clients. I think the storage you suggested is in line what they are looking for. But it requires an Xsan server, which is the part they aren't happy with. Because of the cost and administration.
