Thumbs up Hello Mac's (Project in Shj)

I am working on this Mac project, for a client in Sharjah. I am an architect, with a taste of Tech in Architecture.

So. my client is going to move to his new house in late Aug 2006. So I am proposing for him to go MAC + Security cam (Don't know how; yet!)

He is very simple guy, No clue what is a Mac, but he was impressed with my 12 PB. So, with 2 or 3 MacMini plugs to his HD's screens, and with Bonjour working wirelessly, I can convert these DVD's of his and keep them in iTune. Plus QuadG5's acting like a server. some iMac for his 3 Sons and 1 X wife! Total of maybe 8 macs! .. Woow!

Those HD TV's are UmmwaaaAA!.. Amazing quality with HDMI cable. WoW! If you run iTune + some crazy wallpapers. The screen becomes alive and fills the space with colors and brightens !! OOOOUH!..

Anyway, I wish the family can basically benifit from this, browse the web, watch DVD, record TV. iPhoto, Check his stocks. And MOST important this is to Video chat with his family when he is out of town using (Hopefully New intel 12" PB will be out) ! That will be Fun!

It will be very interesting to connect all of these computers in his house with his Wife and kids.

Lets see how it will workout!

One more thing . . . .

I don't want to waist his money on something that might go wrong. I have no experince in these kind of setups.

What do you think????

Sounds awesome! Definitely let us know how it progresses, and if possible, could we get some photos of all this Mac goodness? If you need some help talking this client into going with Mac, we'll drive to Sharjah, no problem ;-)

Home automation certainly isn't my field, but I'll do what I can to help. Here are some links: Macintosh Home Monitoring, Indigo home automation software, Home automation with Mac mini.

If anyone reading this has any experience with home automation/networking with Macs, please let us know. Let's get this guy all his Macs!

Sounds like a great idea to me, I've been contemplating getting a Mac mini to serve as a multimedia player.

Looking at the proposed setup I wonder why would you need the Quad G5, you can connect a large HD (1 Terabyte for example) to one of the Mac mini's and have the rest of the mini's stream content from it. You could further save cost by lowering the number of mini's if you know for example that not all the TV's will be used at once, in which case you can hookup a KVM switch (I think Belkin is coming out with a version where you can switch with a remote) between two TV's, this way you could watch content on either screen from one Mac mini (one at a time of course).

The other thing that I'm looking into is whether or not current Macs can play HD DVD's, I know they can play HD content that you can download, but not sure about the DVD's themselves, if they don't then you'll have to get an HD compatible DVD player to get the most out of the TV's.

Wow! those are some nice sites..

regarding the HD dvd! Well, I am assuming it is the next big thing in Mac. but not yet.

I will check on the Big HD connected to the mini, i think it will work too, if not! then I can re-set it up maybe with something else.

I will let you know guys soon..

The project is going under the surgery for interior final touch up... It is Ramadhan Now, and the work progress might be slow..

I am expecting the work to be done by Dec... I will be updating this in couple of months..

Untill that time, we might see the new Lepord, maybe new AppleTV.. new Apple Cinema Displays... Who knows
