Moving back to Syria, will the iPhone work?

    Hi all,

Recently I have decided that I will go back to syria for some personal reasons. The issue is that I have iPhone (I bought it from du) and I like it so much, so I was wondering if I can use the iPhone in syria; I do not mean calls and SMS only but DATA too, so anyone have any idea about that?

It does not matter if it was MTN or Syriatel.

I tried to search the internet, but I found nothing about that.

    Thank you for your time.

Du phones are unlocked so they will work.
However, Syria is not one of the iPhone's supported countries.
This means it doesn't have Syria's phone masks.
So the iPhone will get confused with numbers.
i.e. You may not get the caller's name when he calls.

There are 2 ways to solve this:
    - Jailbreak and install CallerID Fix from Cydia.
    - Save a contact as both +963912345678 and 0912345678

As far as data, I am not sure if you access data from a voice sim.
You can buy a 3G data SIM for sure, and this will work.
    Good luck.

I had send an email to MTN customer support in syria, and they replied that I can use the iPhone in syria using MTN, but I have to loose something either data or calls and SMS.

What do you thing guys should I go with voice sim which will enable me to have calls, SMS and GPRS internet (so costly) or to use 3G line to have a data package without the ability to call and SMS?

    Its a matter of preference.
I know a guy that carries 2 sims, and swaps when he needs 3G.

@Mohamad as fang said its a matter of preference. What feature would use use the most, data or calls & sms.
Weight your option as to which is more important and most frequently used, after that youd be able to decide better.Cheers
