    Enable Tethering on iPhone 3.1.2 - ONLY 3G & 3GS

alright guys i know you all 3.0 campers must be getting cold in the tent out there with the signs "NO 3.1.2 till tethering is enabled"

well you can join the 3.1.2 gang and enjoy tethering....
    Edit:
    New Method For All Users
    1. add cydia source http://repo.sinfuliphone.com/
UPDATED cydia source SiNfuL iPhone Repo
    2. search and install the following patch :
for 3G enable tethering for 3G
for 3GS enable tethering for 3GS
    3. Install patch, & reboot phone
    4. Then install custom .ipcc file.
    5. Reset All Network settings:
Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings

this is really simple for all users...no need to patch commcenter on ur own.

    Old Method
You'd require a Mac to do this.... (this is a mac forum afterall, so u must have a Mac)

First get this file and put CommCenter.patch on your Desktop:

    3G S: http://iphwn.org/CommCenter_3gs_312.zip

    3G: http://iphwn.org/CommCenter_3g_312.zip

Copy /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CoreTelephony.framework/Support/CommCenter to your Desktop also.

    Open the Terminal and:
    cd Desktop
    bspatch CommCenter CommCenter-hacked CommCenter.patch
Now go ahead and delete CommCenter now from your Desktop and rename
    CommCenter-hacked to just CommCenter.

Rename CommCenter on your iPhone to CommCenter.backup in case something bad happens, so you have a backup.

Copy the new CommCenter to your iPhone.

SSH into your iPhone or use MobileTerminal as root and chmod +755 the new CommCenter so that it's executable.

    Restart your phone.

instead of benM.at mobilde configs, you can :
    -Install a custom *.ipcc
    -Reset network settings

Credit goes to Dev Team Wiki and The Beat Mix for step-ifiying the process

    For windows users

    Download bspatch for windows

extract in desktop....make sure these are on ur desktop

    CommCenter
    CommCenter.patch

then start your command prompt ( goto start run cmd.exe )

    cd Desktop
    bspatch CommCenter CommCenter-hacked CommCenter.patch
on windows you'll use winscp to ssh to your iphone...

I guess you mean FACTORY unlocked. My 3G is factory unlocked. I just jailbreak for additional functionality, like tethering.

I'm sure there exist some tools for PC to SSH into your iPhone, but you will still need a mac or linux to run the command line patch on Commcenter as it's a Unix executable. If you don't have access to a mac I'm sure a PC tool will be along soon.

I can boot my pc in tinycorelinux from a usb stick so it's not a problem for ssh and the patch - I guess I don't want to jailbreak a "bought locked and officially unlocked" phone though...

well u can do this without jailbreaking...if and if diskaid or ifunbox support setting CHMOD to a file (i havent tried these tools so i dunno)....cause once u transfer the pathc CommCenter file you need to set CHMOD to 0755...

with jailbreak you can activate SSH on iphone and then u can use winscp which does support setting CHMOD

just download bspatch file for windows and follow the steps as described above in my post.
