How to install a custom Carrier Settings file

Hi Gierrran,

I have an Iphone 3GS 32Gb on version 3.1.2 factory unlocked, not bought from Etisalat. I have jailbroken it using BlackRa1n - which is a tethered jailbreak. I previously installed your custom carrier file and I was unable to access the internet over 3G. I get the logo (3G ) but am unable to open any webpage using Safari. I have a 3G enabled Etisalat SIM Card , and i checked the availability of 3G by using my SIM card with my Nokia phone and 3G worked fine. When i enable 3G using SB settings on my iphone i cannot access the internet via Safari, but if i enable Edge, i can access the internet via safari!

After reading the post by zedsain on 10th March, i reverted back to the original Etisalat carrier file, connected to itunes, received notification for a new carrier setting file from Etisalat, installed it, rebooted my phone, had to jailbreak it again as it is a tethered jailbreak, and still no luck. I am still able to access the internet via Safari using Edge but not via 3G. Am i missing something here?

I spoke to Etisalat, and they confirmed that 3G is enabled on my SIM card ( pay as you go plan) but they do not 'support' 3G over iphones that have not been bought from Etisalat. Kindly advise!

My iPhone was not bought from Etisalat (bought from Orange, France and carrier unlocked) and 3G works - both with the standard Etisalat ipcc file and with the ipcc file from this post - maybe your settings are wrong somewhere?

Note that I use a post-paid Etisalat SIM card

Wonder what is wrong with my iphone then? I can access Edge but not 3G! I have a post-paid SIM Card from Etisalat as well. Possibly could it be the fact that i have a tethered Jailbreak using BlackRa1n? I have followed the post to the letter, i doubt i have missed some settings somewhere.. open to suggestions!

I can access the net using EDGE, but not via 3G. could some help me out please?

Check to see if 3G is on.
Also some places don't have 3G coverage.
Otherwise, you might have to restore the phone.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have tried connecting to 3G in several places in Dubai, no luck! I have put the SIM in my Nokia N95 and am able to access 3G services! I have installed both the regular Etisalat Carrier file as well as the Custom Carrier File from this board, but to no avail. Since my phone is a tethered Jailbreak, as soon as i reboot, i need to jailbreak again using BlackRa1n. You reckon the jailbreak after rebooting is messing it up? Am desperate to use 3G, i can access EDGE easily, but no 3G

Do u have to jailbreak?
At this stage I would recommend a restore.

You didn't mention if u checked the 3G switch.

Yes, i have to Jailbreak each time i reboot my iphone as it is a Tethered Jailbreak. By 3G switch i am assuming you are talking about the 3G on and off switch in Settings, yes, checked it as well. I guess the only thing to do then is to restore then

I meant why do u need to jailbreak it to begin with?
Is it locked?

Either way, I have to recommend the hard way.

I followed the steps specified ubove, but I am still unable to make outgoing calls although etisalat's logo has appeared. What shall I do??
