iPhone 3G S not activated, jailbroken or unlocked

A friend of mine recently visited the US and bought me an iPhone 3G S 32 GB for 700 US Dollars. It is not activated, jailbroken or unlocked.

Can anybody provide me help to activate, jailbreak and unlock the iPhone 3G S?

Is it possible for me to do it from home? or is there some place in Dubai from where i can have it activated, jailbroken and unlocked?

    Regards,
    Rick Milton

as far as i understand, to install ultrasn0w, the phone has to be jailbroken. But doesnt the iPhone 3G S have to be activated first in order to jalibreak it? so how do i go about the activation process?

You can't activate a carrier-locked iphone until you have jailbroken it and installed ultrasn0w.

First step is to jailbreak using redsn0w, then unlock using unltrasn0w, then activate your iPhone using iTunes. Complex, I know, but that's the price for buying a carrier locked phone. It's pretty straightforward when you get into it. Download redsn0w here: Dev-Team Blog - redsn0w in june

I wouldnt really go for redsn0w to jailbreak the iPhone 3GS. It clearly states on the Dev-Teams website not to jailbreak the 3GS using redsn0w.

    Quote:

"redsn0w is an easy to use, multi-platform, multi-device jailbreaking and unlocking (iPhone 2G only) tool for the iPhone 2G (original iPhone), the iPhone 3G (but not the 3GS) and also the iPod touch (first and second generation). "

Hey Bushako, sorry, my bad, that was a post to an older version of redsnow, the latest version does support 3GS: Dev-Team Blog - What's old is new again

rickmilton, if you have a carrier-locked phone you must always wait for the dev-team to release a new jailbreak before updating. They normally release one within a few days, Apple doesn't seem to make it very hard for them - I think Apple is just fulfilling it's obligations to AT&T really. Just bookmark their blog, and don't accept any iPhone updates in iTunes until you're sure you're ready!

iClarified has great tutorials for this sort of thing, the link below is specifically for unlocking the 3G and the 3GS:

iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock the iPhone 3G, 3GS Using UltraSn0w

It is very detailed, even includes a video.

    Enjoy.

    Hi Rick Milton ,
Since a friend of mine is to bring me an iphone 3G S from USA, and I'm living in Europe,I am having the same questions as you,
so I would like to know did you succeeded in activating your iPhone?

Because from searching through the net I understand too, that the Iphone needs to be activated first, in order to be jailbrake. So I would really like to know your response.
    Thank you in advance.
    Aleks
