    2.2 Iphone Firmware

I upgraded my 3G iPhone to 2.2. It is working fine but I noticed that it hangs up every now and then.

By the way: If you must have Arabic on your iPhone, then you need to wait for iphoneislam to update the Arabic application.

We should join forces here and start writing plugins to support Arabic for both MAC and iPhone. It is not difficult to do so but it just needs more focused heads.

    ipod touch 2.2

I just updated my ipod to 2.2 looking forward to the podcast section in iTunes but!!!! Just tried to open it and it says iTunes not supported in this country. It is not a major loss losing the itunes store on the ipod I had purchsed a couple of songs but I was looking forward to the podcast section!!!!! anyone else tried it yet?

    Edit.

I just gone through the podcast directory on my ipod and clicked on get more episodes and it has taken me to the itunes store podcast section so is working. It seems if you go to itunes this way all of itunes is available.

Apple will close that loophole soon enough.

Hello everyone. This is my first post

I have 'switched' everyone in my family to a mac except for my wife. She will soon be getting a Macbook Pro, so the transition will be complete. We still have PCs, and I can't wait to eventually get rid of them.

Let me get back to the subject at hand - iPhone 3G firmware update 2.2

I recently bought an iPhone 3G from Souq.com which was supposedly "factory unlocked" but of course it turned out not to be and stopped recognizing my sim ("sim failed") after I updated to 2.2 It turns out not to have been a genuine (legal) Apple factory unlock.

So I bought a genuine Apple unlocked iPhone 3G on Ebay from Australia. The seller has thousands of verified sales of legally unlocked units, so I am confident it will genuinely be unlocked.

HOWEVER, I am a bit scared to update the firmware to 2.2 Because maybe the itunes activation will sense my Etisalat card and my UAE location. Is this unwarranted paranoia, or do you guys suggest I wait and see?

I read on another thread someone mentioned that he too had a factory unlocked Australian 3G phone. If you are reading this, what do you plan on doing?

PS - I bought the phone for a great price. Including shipping by DHL with insurance, I will get it for around 2,500 dirhams. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post a link to the Ebay seller in this thread, so I won't. But I'd be happy to refer anyone to the seller once I get my iPhone and if I am sure that it functions properly in the UAE with firmware updates.

Thanks for listening and hope someone can help me out.

Yeah wouldn't be surprised. Was surprised that I found a back door really.

I think Apple have fixed some bugs.

The home screen opens faster (then 2.1) after sliding the unlock bar.
    The applications are opening faster.

However, I've noticed a strange thing.

My iPhone is a jail broken one. So when I upgraded it from 1.1.4 to 2.1, automatically Installer and Cydia got installed. However, I was not using them nor using any 3rd party app, as I was using apps and games from the App Store. But today, after upgrading both (installer and cydia) vanished (removed?) from my phone along with 1 app which got downloaded while upgrading to 2.1.

    Any idea?
Macenthu, it sounds like you Updated your iPhone before you removed the jailbreak or updated before waiting for an Update via Jailbreak. This is probably why your Cydia and Installer got wiped.

For anyone who found my post above relevant, I am happy to report that I went ahead and updated my new iPhone 3G to 2.2 and it works perfectly with Etisalat.

My suggestion - buy the legally unlocked (by Apple) iPhone 3G. There is a common misperception that it is expensive. I got it for 2,300 dirhams and with DHL 3 day shipping plus insurance it came out to about 2,500 dirhams.

Finally, after a two year wait (and nearly going the blackberry way several times) I can get rid of my collection of rusting Palm Treos.

PS - the iPhone is in a league of its own - I LOVE it.

    This is very worrying.

If they've switched off accessing the iTunes store from the UAE on iPhones - even when connecting via wi-fi - how long until they switch off the store for those of us with an Apple TV?
