    iPhone 3G Signal Problem

    Hello Everyone,

I hope someone can help me out, I bought an iPhone 3G from Hong Kong last month. It’s factory and legally unlocked. The thing is, I can’t get a proper 3G signal here in Dubai (I’m using a prepaid etisalat sim card). At first, I switched the 3G off in settings and initially was getting full bars on the 2G network but lose the signal and have “Network Lost” every now and then. The solution so far for me is to take the sim card out, put it in my Nokia phone and once I get signal from my Nokia phone I return the sim back to the iPhone and get full bars again.

I upgraded my firmware to 2.1 already but still the same problem. Every time I lose my network, I have to place my sim to my Nokia and back to the iPhone just to get a signal.

Is anyone having the same problem as I am? Can anyone please please help me out?

    Thank you very much!

    Does resetting network settings work?

There was an issue with the 3G, but it should have been resolved with 2.1
Does putting it in Airplane mode on and off help any?

Well, everytime I enable the 3G (or disable) I get the network lost/no service message on top left screen. But the Etisalat signal comes back after around 1 minute (my SIMCard is postpaid)
    I haven't subscribed the 3G package yet...

I tried turning the 3G on and off and also the airplane mode but to no success on the signal. I haven’t tried resetting the network yet though. I hope that’ll work. Due to my frustration, I gave the iphone to my wife!!! But she’s also having the same problems (still need to transfer sim card to another phone and back just to get a signal). She’s also using prepaid etisalat sim card. I’ll inform her about resetting the network settings and I’ll update you guys if it solves the problem.

It sounds like people using a postpaid sim card are not having issues with the iphone. Could it be because of my prepaid sim?

    Hi Everyone,

i really don't know what to do know. I tried switching the airplane mode on and off and even reset the network settings when my connection was lost but i still can't get a signal. i also tried turning the phone on and off as well as the 3g. i'm really frustrated now.

any suggestions would really be appreciated.

that happens to my fathers iphone aswell but the thing i'm wondering is that, where is the 3g on and off button or option. I couldn't find it anywhere.

With my fathers iphone when he goes into a lift(elevator) he loses his signals and has to wait for like 5mins for them to come back. he uses etisalat. but when he turns the iphone off and switches it on again, the signals come back again.

To turn off the iPhone push the power button (top right) for a long time until you see "slide to power off".
You can also try to put it in Airplane Mode in the settings.
    Turn that on then off.

hi everyone. so far, my prepaid etisalat sim is still having signal problems with my iphone 3g. it easily loses signal and i still have to place the sim to my nokia phone and back to my iphone. i just used my philippine roaming sim card with the iphone.

the thing now is...my philippine sim card gets signal from DU and i noticed that signal was great and i never had problems with it.

could it be that the etisalat prepaid sim card has issues with the iphone 3g?

    No Signals

Am having the same problem of no signals when ever I use an elevator and then I have to place the sim into my Nokia phone where it shows full signals and after slipping it back in iphone it works again properly. I had tried both pre-paid & post paid sims of Etisalat. I have 2.2 Ver unlocked by using a turbo sim. Tried every thing from switching off and on to airplane mode etc but nothing helps.
