Want feedback from 4S or 4 users

I wanted to buy an iphone 4s from apple's online store but I've read threads on their forums where owners have issues such as poor battery life, a strange buzzing sound from the earpiece while making or receiving calls and the phone trying to maintain a 3G signal (like 1 or 2 bars) even if the 2G signal would be full bars. Are they true? The latter would be extremely important to me as I've no intention of using 3G (wifi is adequate for me) and apple has removed the 3G/2G toggle for the 4S. Also, some users complain of poor call quality in general (like muffled voice being heard by the other party). This would be my first apple product so I would hate it to be an expensive (AED 3000!!) disappointment!

    Hi,

I've been using the 4S from the day it was launched, not even once have i encountered any of the issues that you have mentioned. Yes the battery life is a little sketchy, but then again its a smartphone that does a lot things, so that can be forgiven.
I can assure that there is no buzzing sound while making or receiving a call. The phone does lose the 3G signal every once in a while but that is due to dead spots in the area/city, its not a hardware issue.
Call quality on the 4S is excellent. I can say this coz I have compared it to the Blackberry 9900 and the Galaxy Nexus, both of which are flagship devices and the 4S remains the best here in terms of call quality.
And last but not the least, the camera on this bad boy is outstanding. The 8 megapixel sensor on this phone is brilliant, it captures true to life colors, saturation is non-existent.

Hope the above clarified your doubts and should help in making the decision.
I'm everything Mac and Apple but don't take me as a fanboy. But from my experiences with Apple products, they are truly value for money.

    Cheers!!!

I've had no problem with my 4S. I'd say battery life is a bit less than the 4, but it also depends how you use data, Wi-Fi and stuff.

Played with a 4S for the last couple days, and I don't notice any difference in battery usage. However it seems the signal strength is generally lower e.g., I see 3-4 bars sometimes where it used to be 4-5, or even 1-2 bars where it was fine before (at least 3). Anyone else?
    Cheers,
    -Michl

Maybe that's because of 3G, you can't disable it in the 4S

^^ This is a thread about the static noise issue I mentioned. There is another one which was over 50 pages but I can't find it in my browser history. How's the call quality of the 4S? It is very important to me because I'm an accountant and voice calls are of greater importance than data (have wifi practically everywhere I go so don't care about data plans). I plan to purchase the phone from apple's online store, any one else bought anything from there? How's the service by them?

I've also read that the camera has a rattle when the surrounding area is tapped, any one else have that?

I'm really keen about the 4S because the 4"+ screens of the androids are unwieldy for me and I prefer touch screens.

Hi Shroff... Where you get some of these concerns is beyond me... Normally I wont respond to topics like this, since I belive you have to be happy with your choice of phones. Commenting on your concerns...

The call quality of the 4S can't be THAT bad, since there are thousands of people using it. My iPhone call quality is better than the N97, which is supposedly yesteryear's flagship. I don't have static, quirks or battery issues that are not related to my own usage. If you are a "SUPER" user of teh phone, get something like the Mophy Juice-pack. If you deplete the iPhone battery, you'll deplete any phones battery.

The rattle was most probably the person tapping the backside's fingernail he / she heard. I can't imagine where the rattle came from, unless it was dropped??? No idea on that. Mine certainly does not rattle, neither does my wifes or son's.
The rattling camera connection can also be prevented by not buying your iPhone from Dragonmart.

Online Apple-Store experience... ??? Why don't you look at another user's experience and judge for yourself. The link is HERE.

Personally, if I had not had an iPhone, and had to get a new one... I'd go and get one instead of waiting for other people to justify my decision of buying one.

Have a fab weekend and enjoy your IP4S.
Been there, done that... Converted to Mac...

Well, thanks for the info - I wasn't aware of this... A quick trip to the Settings panel just confirmed the unfortunate truth. Yet another arbitrary decision from Apple, yet another option taken from the user... I'm really getting sick of this "I know better than you" attitude. Straight to Apple feedback page now, to let them know I have no use for 3G, always disabled it in the past, and I'd appreciate being able to do it still - esp. when the 3G signal is significantly worse!

Well apart from the 3G signal issue above, it's a little marvel of technology. Everything else works great. Now of course given that its primary function is to be a phone, the low signal issue is a major one...

No problem with the camera here. The images are totally gorgeous. My only complaint is that the hardware button is quite hard to press and I can't seem to be able to zap a picture without moving... Have to use the on screen button instead. On a related note, I've been using GorillaCam before but on the 4S I got a couple of freezes. Time to shop for another camera app perhaps...
    Cheers,
    -Michl

Apple says it is not possible to disable 3G manually because of the new antenna, even though it does just that automatically. An employee has the iphone 4 and it has only 2 bars reception (3G) in the office even though every other phone including the iphone have full bars without 3G. Without proper reception it's a deal breaker! I'll hold on to my old Nokia until June or October ie. whenever the successor phone is announced and make my decision then. I really hope they allow the user to disable 3G in the next one!!
