Just to mention, I have a pretty similar experience as yours, except no problem at all. I went through the steps, configuring the 4S, and when at the network step it detected my wireless network (w/ WPA2) and accepted the password. Presumably your unit is faulty, they should just give you a new one.
    Cheers,

Strange that the 4S does not have a cellular-data toggle. Essentially the 4S is a 4 on "S"teroids, and my iPhone4 has the Data Toggle on IOS 5.01.
You could always JB it. LOL

    Congrats! Enjoy.
Been there, done that... Converted to Mac...

I think you mean the 2G/3G toggle. That is the one missing from the Network settings panel on the 4S. (The cellular-data toggle is there, along with VPN and WiFi settings.)

But strange it is, can't agree more. Although, I suppose that is yet another of Apple's "insight": they assume everyone enjoys a good network and 3G signal and also everyone needs fast Internet access (esp. with Siri, which is a 4S-only feature, not to mention iCloud...) so no need to disable 3G anymore, right? sigh

Luckily they also seem to listen to customers (sometimes...) and the 2G/3G toggle will be back with iOS 5.1 (as chefmerrick indicated).
    Cheers,
    -Michl

Lol .. the 3G reception is so poor in my home that it switches to 2G automatically but for reasons best known to Apple it switches back to 3G when making a call thus adding a delay before actually making the call. Otherwise the phone is good, no issues so far and I used wifi (app store) for a few hours to download apps/browsing with the battery charge out of the box! Looking forward to ios 5.1 to force 2G.

I got my 4S over 2 weeks back from du. Before this, I had the Galaxy Nexus and an HTC 7 Mozart running Windows Phone 7.5 and I can't tell you how much I've missed iOS.

My last iPhone was the 3GS and in spirit of experimentation I decided to try out other smartphones. This particular one packs a punch, the camera is brilliant. And with the Camera+ app it just makes the pictures all the more better. I read a lot about battery issues, and I'm happy to say that it doesn't deplete as quickly as a lot of have reported. WiFi at work has a very weak signal where I sit so I end up being on 3G for most of the time and even then, a full charge lasts me about 6-7 hours at least.

I've had instances where I've suddenly lost signal and it displays the ugly "No Service" but the lapse is very short and it returns to normal in a matter of seconds.

I take most of the photos with the volume rocker button, it's just so much more convenient and have no problems with it being stiff/hard. And now with the JB out for A5 devices, I'm able to get all the Cydia tweaks, making the whole experience a tad bit better!!

I synced some wallpapers and pictures taken with my older mobile phones and they're in separate albums but now there is a new "photo library" album with all of them duplicated in it. How do I delete this duplicate album? It's just wasting my space.

Is icloud backup from the phone working for anyone else? It just stays there with estimating time remaining even if I leave the phone locked and check back later.

Has disabling Siri improved battery life for anyone else over here?
