iPad and iPhone 4 too close together?

It wasn't that long ago Apple released the iPad on us and now there's iPhone 4 too. Forgetting about what our poor credit cards can take (or not), was it smart of Apple to release two such important products so closely together or should they have left more time in between?

Add to that, that we'll surely see iPod touch (and perhaps other iPods too) inspired by iPhone 4 and iPad just after summer.

Well Apple is working on a yearly update cycle for nearly all its products. They can't really do less, given how fast the hardware progresses. Some would even like biannual updates. And then Apple has a lot of products so... when else, that is the question. Like you said, there is always something coming next.
