UAE Internet Banking - Your experiences

We were discussing in another thread about Safari 4 not being supported for some UAE online banking websites, so I thought I might make a thread about people's online banking experiences.

I use Emirates Bank, and their website is so bad it's only matched by their customer supports. Okay, I have other issues with Emirates Bank, but their website doesn't support Safari or Firefox. Firefox used to work fine, but they actually went backwards since their merger with NBD, and it doesn't work any more!

I can access the website with both Safari and Firefox, but I can't use some features. For instance, if I want to make a telegraphic transfer to another account, I have to launch Windows so I can use IE.

    EBI/NBD
    OS Supported:
    Windows 95/98/2000/ME/XP

    MAC OSX / Firefox 1.01, Netscape 7.2
(I guess this is minimum browser version - Firefox is up to v3.5 now!)

    Barclays
    Supported Browsers:
Internet Explorer 5.5 and above, Netscape4.7 and above
    (No OS requirements)

    National Bank of Abu Dhabi

Yeahh, all of that just shows how BAD is the quality of IT projects here in UAE. Lack of really talented and skilled IT professionals, brainless management, etc etc.... Typical for third world country.

Same here, I have been using FF for few years now and have only recently realised that the website wasn't working properly. I am sure like you said it used to work in FF.

I did speak to one of there IT support guys after complaining about it but he said there is no plans make the site work for Safari or FF.

But also on other problems with the bank like blocking my ATM card for no reason and me chasing them about and only being able to go to one branch cos I am a meBank customer. I am leaving the bank, thinking of Lloyds. Does anyone have any experience with them? Will be asking which browser is supported by their online banking before opening an account.

We're off topic, I know, but damn the customer support at Emirates bank is bad!

Of course every bank makes mistakes, but the amount of time it takes them to actually fix their mistakes is incredible. Emirates bank made three unauthorised debits from my account for a large amount that was resolved for me only after 4 months and about 50 phone calls. And I know that the merchant involved is STILL having to chase them about it - after I recovered my money from the bank, Emirates Bank turned around and took the money from the merchant's account. It was easy for us to prove that these transactions had never taken place, but not so easy for Emirates Bank to fix

There I got it all out. I feel much better now. AVOID Emirates Bank people. They are fine for everyday stuff, but the moment there is a problem you will regret it!

Back to topic now people - this is about INTERNET banking. Lets start a new thread around the watercooler if you want to keep *****ing about banks. Benson maybe you could start a new thread if you want to discuss which UAE bank is good to leave that terrible Emirates Bank for.

But yeah, Benson, about Emirates Bank no longer supporting Firefox - isn't it amazing that not only are they not progressing their online banking, but they actually managed to go BACKWARDS!

NBAD's online banking works well with all the browsers on my Mac, and well with all flavors of Windoze.

    Citi Bank
    Standard Chartered

    HSBC - Does not work
Barclays - Heard it does not work (I have not used it personally)

Dude. According to their FAQ, NBAD even supports Windows 3.1! I would love for someone to test that!

In fact their only requirement for a browser is that is supports SSL. They must have some great coding.

I wonder if you'll try and log in using Chrome, just to see if it works!
