Lightbulb Paperless Office

We're building an office for our team and we are all mac users. I would like to minimize usage of paper so we created our memos, forms, approvals, all digital (pdf).

Since we will have our own office I wanted to receive fax from our mac so we can backup digitally. Can you please help me get the list of materials (i.e. fax modem, software, etc.) and setting it up?

Is it also possible to accept phone call using mac (local & incoming calls)? So staff can just use headset to talk.

Thank you in advance.

Hi

Not sure I understand two things:
- You want " receive fax from our mac so we can backup digitally", explain that further, please. Your Mac is sending faxes which you want to receive with another Mac?
- About the headsets and phone, why not just headsets which plug into regular phone units? What's the benefit of going through a Mac?

There are networked fax machines that could be set to forward incoming faxes onto specific Mac that's also connected to the network.

Hi Magnus,

What I meant is send & receive fax from mac. If we received it digitally (i.e. pdf) we can file it in a server (i.e. client folder) so. It doesn’t need to print and file it in a file binder (save papers, file binders, fax machine & cabinets or office space).

Regarding receiving phone calls from mac (a bit silly?). Well just a concept since every staff has mac, what if they can pick-up their phone calls from their mac (save phone unit, minimal office equipment).

Thanks

For faxes, a better option is to use Etisalat's WebFax service

It forwards all your faxes to an email address.
You can also reduce IDD charges.

But you might want to keep a multi function machine in the office to send hard copy papers.
And that will function as a fax, printer, photocopy, and scanner.

As for routing the calls, there are ways to do it on a PC, or from a mobile, but not sure on a Mac.
But either way, your better off with the tried and true telephone set.
It will be cheaper and easier.

Definitely, look for "PC fax capability" when you check fax sepcs (Mac is PC in this case). Here is an example from Brother.
