Safari refusing to connect BUT Firefox is ok?

So after spending forever trying to findout why I get "Safari can’t find the server.
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.yahoo.com/” because it can’t find the server “www.yahoo.com”." when trying to use safari (Including reseting God knows what with all hardware involved) I decided to just try firefox.

And guess what, I cannot connect to the net with Safari but Firefox is working flawlessly.

Any idea why this might be happening? It's been going on for the last 30 hours (roughly)

check ur system wide proxies in system preferences,
firefox manage proxy server seperately, and that could be the reason why it is working but not safari

Have you upgraded to 10.5.3?
All of the machines I have are being fussy with the same problem.
I didn't try Firefox.

But I was assuming it has something to do with Etisalat.

Even firefox now is refusing to connect to some sites. for example I am typing this fine on EM but I cant load Yahoo.com.

Can Etisalat do nothing right?

Perhaps it's not Etisalat's fault.

I don't have this problem at home but I did for the longest time at work. Everything worked fine with FF but Safari just didn't connect. Now for the last six months or so Safari connects but it works at almost 100% CPU capacity even just sitting with an empty page, so something is still not right.

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you, but I'd like to know what's happening too.

Please do the following:
Go to System preference>Network and click on 'Assist me' than to the dialoque box that appears do 'Diagnostics' if you get on green lights there, and Safari still doesn't work, than it must be the fault of your Safari.

Diagnostics are fine.
I think this one is Etisalat's fault.
But I can't be sure.
Its not just Yahoo, I wasn't able to go to Google, TUAW, and a few other sites.
I would be downloading at blazing fast in ope page, and the other wouldn't go thru!!
It could very much be the update for me.

This problem is happening in wired and wireless.
Safari & Firefox, as well as Skype and Adium.

Apple or Etisalat, whoever it is I hope they fix it soon.

hmm, i duno how this wud be etisalat's fault btw. apart from thhis, the facebook problem STILL remains, and i think this might be connected to tht. FACEBOOK REFUSES to login until i've given the password like 10 times, it starts loading after i give it the password, and then just takes me back to the login page... it is very very very annoying... i've reset safari and God knows what i've done to make it work
is any1else experiencing the problem?
