Although my email is working, I am getting an error when I am using my etisalat email on mac.
The error reads: Mail can't verify the identity of 'smtp.emirates.net.ae'.
I have attached a screen shot of the error.
    Could someone help on this?

Just tell it to connect, and u should be ok.
This appears when you are connecting to a server without a signed certificate.

    Thanks 'fangpyre'.

Like I said before, my email is working but I keep getting this message.
I thought the server address was incorrect. Apparently not.

This just means that the certificat is invalid.
    Etisalat hasn't renewed it.

    Hello all,

I'm in Dubai on a business trip and I'm trying to use a foreign email address. I can receive emails but cannot send any.

I've read this thread and tried just about everything, including all the outgoing email servers that you have suggested:

    mail.emirates.net.ae
    smtp.eim.ae
    etc etc

Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong? I've tried calling etisalat on 101 and they can't seem to help me / aren't calling me back.

Any help would be kindly appreciated.

    Cheers
    Ryan

You mean sending/receiving with a non-Etisalat email account? If that's the case this thread is about Etisalat email accounts so it won't help you. You should have received information from your email/service provider about what settings you need for your system.

I've tried my home ISP and they keep telling me that I need to get the outgoing email server settings from the local provider (etisalat). Etisalat told me to try:

    proxy1.emirates.net.ae
    Port 8080

still not working, starting to drive me mental

There might be a miscommunication here.
The email server (both in and out) are connected to your email, regardless of where u are.
An email server will not allow you to send or receive from it unless you are a customer (if setup properly).

Normally, you wouldn't have to change your email's settings when you travel.
However, sometimes your server may be blocked on the network you are working on.
Etisalat doesn't block email servers normally.

What Etisalat gave you is a proxy that will help with browsing, and doesn't affect your email.
In fact, you should be able to browse the internet with or without it.

I would check to see if the network yo are on is blocking your server somehow or that your machine's settings got messed up.
But hands down, you will HAVE to put back your original email settings, and then work from there.

I tried them too, all options, and it does not work.

In fact the incoming mail server of "mail.emirates.net.ae" is fine and works without the need for "mailv". Alternatively one can use "pop3.emirates.net.ae" or even just "emirates.net.ae". All these work on the incoming POP3 server. The problem is making contact with the outgoing SMTP server when abroad.

From Dubai, we use "mailv.emirates.net.ae" as outgoing SMTP server, and this works fine. But we have a company mail hosting address. For normal etisalat email addresses i use "smtp.emirates.net.ae" as outgoing SMTP server and it also works fine.

But i have a problem connecting with the SMTP server when not in the UAE and specifically from Cyprus.

    Regards,
