Using Telephone Sockets in Different Rooms For Wired Network for Multiple Macs

    Hi all

I am hoping that someone will be able to advise me whether an idea of mine may be workable.

    First, the problem:

my etisalat al shamil internet and telephone connection enters my house at the back via a D-link ADSl router which is connected directly to my Apple timecapsule which acts as a wireless network and back-up system. I have an old Powermac connected via a wired connection to the timecapsule and then use my Macbook Pro wirelessly around the house. I am considering cancelling my Showtime connection and replacing it with a mac-mini connected to my TV at the front of my house and upgrading my Al Shamil to a faster connection. Currently the front of my house is only networked wirelessly, but if I am to use this to download and watch TV I would prefer to have a wired connection to increase connection speed.

    Now my proposed solution:

I wonder if it is possible to use the telephone wall sockets in the front of my house to gain a wired connection. Obviously I would somehow need to have a connection from my timecapsule to a telephone socket at the back of the house and for this socket to be connected to the socket at the front of the house. Also the sockets and wires between them need to be capable of transferring data at fast speeds.

So is this realistic? Am I missing a much simpler solution that will meet my needs? All suggestions very welcome.

Actually, the telephone cables won't work as network cables.
What you can do is probably use them to help pull new network cables (providing you own the house, etc…)
You can also look at external wires.

There is an option of using your power cables as a network, but I'm not a big fan of that method.
Basically u put a device in to the mains on one end, and then another on the end.
You get an Ethernet connection on the devices.

Finally, look at wireless with enough spots to cover your house.
    Stay hungry. Stay Foolish.

    Thanks again fangpyre.

I've heard previously of the elctrical wall sockets route but like you would prefer to avoid that. I have wireless coverage already but connection speed is critical for my needs with this and that is why i wish to create a wired connection.

I have a cabling guy coming tonight to look at swapping the unused coaxial tv connections between rooms for RJ45 cable.

Did you get this done? Was thinking of doing it myself, I have a 2 1/2 storey villa, not set up the wifi yet but I doubt it will reach the kids room.
