Here's an idea.
Hey guys..
I intend to make use of a wireless IP Camera in my house so i can watch while im away. But im not sure this will work out for me.
Right now what i have at home is a 512kbps etisalat connection with Siemens Gigaset SE568 modem/router. Im sure i need a static IP address for the ip camera to work if i need to access the camera from outside.
Any ideas on how to make this work, suggestions on hardware???
Here's an idea.
Well thanks Magnus...its a great idea..but skype here doesnot work reliably.
I saw another solution to this eyespyfx.com.
But still IP camera is something i need.
I started looking for similar solutions some time ago...
Engadget has a very good - if a bit dated - article on how to turn your laptop into a home-security system.
They also recommend EvoCam as the best software solution. I was thinking of using it to push image captures onto my Dropbox... But now there is EvoLV for live video streaming.
Otherwise Axis has good, Mac-compatible cameras, like this one...

EvoCam is good, I've used it quite a bit, mostly for uploading shots with FTP. The DropBox idea would be interesting to try.
I forgot to mention, the DropBox idea is because you can access it as a website (a little known feature?!)
So EvoCam would keep uploading images to my DropBox at regular intervals and then I can check them all from anywhere, any time.

Sorry if I wasn't specific enough... For a basic setting an Internet Camera should be enough (with dynamicallly assigned IP indeed), but then it only allows 'live' viewing, correct? In many situations you want to check what happened, say, throughout the day and so uploading images to a web server becomes necessary. The suggestion was to upload to DropBox, which is free and easily accessible.
Cheers,
-Michl
I hadnt really thought about it too much but as we use Nokia Intellisync it automatically updates exchange/outlook on my work pc which is part of my mobileme. I was gonna trash it but it might just be worth that 50 euro or whatever. One thing that is upsetting me slightly is that I cannot drag files into the idisk from my finder.
