Macbook Hard Drive Failure

Hi,
I wanted to get some advice from you. I was working on iMovie on my Macbook when my hard drive failed. Now on startup i just see a folder with question mark on it.

Now please advice on how can I fix it. Is there a way to replace the hard drive. Can it be fixed in the UAE? As one of the iStyle Salesperson told me that it would have to go to California.

Please advice. Thank you.

What have you tried to diagnose/fix it? Have you booted from the installation DVD and ran Disk Utility?

Yes I have and with no luck. The system is not recognising the hard drive itself.

Then you could try something like DiskWarrior or TechTool but chances are slim, in my experience, that they can help much. You could take the drive out and put it in another Mac or external enclosure and see if it can be seen that way.

There is nothing wrong with your HDD in your Macbook, its just that startup disc has been changed. you can fix that from system preferences by choosing the correct stratup disc, or with your original installation disc.

All Apple HD Drives are the same as the PC ones, so you can replace it when needed as long as the size and pins match.

Just curious, how do you know that for sure from the information given?

If it's defective it should be fixed under warranty yes I think so. But I'm not 100% convinced that it's a hardware problem. Why don't you go to MyOWC and click your way to the HDD options.
