Time capsule / Airport extreme losing connection with PPPoE

Hi All,

I'm having trouble with Airport Extreme and Time Capsule when connecting to the internet over PPPoE.

I have an internet connection from Etisalat called WiMax where they installed a wireless router on my roof and put the router in my house. so it's not the regular DSL that they usually provide with a plug in the wall.

The Time Capsule is connected directly to the WiMax Modem and the good news is that the WiMax connection support PPPoE and not the PPPoA that they provide with the regular DSL connection.

Now the problem is when I connect the Time Capsule to the modem I have the green light and the connection works for a while, and then randomly drops with the error message that PPPoE not found with flashing orange light. the connection comes back after few minutes and so on.

I also tried using Airport Extreme base station, same problem.

The connection is stable when I connect my iMac directly to the WiMax modem.

Any suggestions.
Thanks

Hi smoarbes,

I do have the same fiber optics cable installed in my home, and I thought if I could connect it directly to AE/TC, and your proved me right In fact it’s the very time since they installed this box in my house in Jan that I hear that someone else is using it!

Anyways, I do not know what is really wrong with your connection, and I do not have an AT/TC myself. But since you said wired connection is stable, then I assume your problem most likely has to do with he wireless setup itself!! Try different kind of password authentication, different channel, or maybe assigning fixed IP to specific MAC addresses, etc…

Good luck.

Hi LeoSeven,

In the begining I thought that I had an internal problem with wireless connectivity but I noticed that when the TC looses it's PPPoE connectivity I loose the wireless connection.

I tried to connect to the TC with Ethernet cable and I had the same problem. the only time when I have a stable connection is when I bypass the TC and connect directly to the Etisalat modem.

What happens if you connect thru the Airport via TP cable?

This will show you if the problem is with the network settings or the Airport.
Note that some machines have a problem with Airport, and Apple has yet to solve it.
